She has an intense affection for this land with all of its natural beauty, native creatures and ancient cultures and is ever grateful for the opportunity to turn her passion for the area into a thriving business. “I feel such an innate kinship with this place and I want to share it with as many people as possible. It is so rewarding to watch tourist’s faces light up when they experience their first ray of sun in a slot canyon, or their first glimpse of petroglyphs and crumbling ancient structures. We offer such an intimate immersion into this country – our guides are so hospitable and enthusiastic, the experience can be quite profound. There is really nothing else like it around. How fortunate that this is actually my job. WOW, what a trip!”
Ken Church, one of our company owners, represents the fifth generation of his family to live and work in the Southern Utah and Northern Arizona region. Windows of the West is the ONLY local tour company that can boast this intimate generational tie to the area. Ken’s great-great grandfather was Jacob Hamblin, one of the original settlers of the region surrounding Kanab, Utah. Jacob was a Mormon missionary who served as a diplomat to several Native American tribes, and assisted John Wesley Powell on his second trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.
Ken’s grandfather, Hade Church, started the now famous mule rides at the North rim of the Grand Canyon in the 1930’s. Hade also conducted horse rides at Zion and Bryce National Parks. The horse and mule concessions remained in the family for almost 50 years.
